What are the side effects of Anti-wrinkle treatments if any?
Common side effects of the wrinkle-smoothing injection are a small amount of temporary bleeding or mild swelling at the injection area. Bruising may be possible especially treatments near the eye area, as it is more delicate. However, this bruising is temporary and can be covered with cosmetics. Mild headache may be experienced post-treatment. In rare cases across the world double vision has been reported. Occasionally there have been cases after a forehead treatment drooping of the upper eyelid occurs. Drooping of the eyelids (Ptosis) – This is a rare but transient complication occurring in 1-2% of patients. The incidence can be minimized by positioning post injections. In the experienced hands, this happens in less than one percent of patients and will usually resolve within 2 – 10 weeks. Infection is unusual. If infection occurs, additional treatment including antibiotics may be necessary. There is a possibility of an unsatisfactory result from the procedure. The procedure may result in unacceptable visible deformities, loss of function, and/or loss of sensation. You may be disappointed with the results of the procedure. Allergic reactions – In rare cases, local allergies to topical preparations have been reported. Systemic reactions, which are more serious, may result from drugs used during surgery and prescription medicines. Allergic reactions may require additional treatment.
What are the contraindications of the Anti-wrinkle treatments?
- Those with a known hypersensitivity to Botulinum Toxin Type A or to any of its’ excipients e.g. human albumin, and sodium chloride.
- Neuromuscular disorders such as myasthenia gravis or Eaton Lambert Syndrome.
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding.
- Co-treatment with Aminoglycoside antibiotics, or medicinal products that interfere with neuromuscular transmission (e.g. tubocurarine – type muscle relaxants).
What are the cautions for the anti-wrinkle treatment?
- Patients with coagulation disorders, or using anticoagulants due to the increased likelihood of bruising. The use of aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medication, high dose vitamin E, and high dose omega 3 oils, may be stopped for at least seven days prior to treatment to minimize bruising.
- Patients with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or with peripheral neuromuscular disorders.
